Production Underwriter – Transportation (two positions open)


Location:

  1. Ohio/Indiana based office, work from home, covering states of Ohio, Indiana, central Kentucky, northern West Virginia and southern Michigan
  2. Virginia/Maryland based office, work from home, covering states of Virginia, Maryland, south and central West Virginia, Delaware, and a few select agents in southeastern Pennsylvania

Duration: Full-time position

Position description: The Production Underwriter will be involved with varied activities that promote the achievement of the primary goal: the successful growth of a book of transportation insurance business.

Key activity areas are:

  • Marketing to retail producers; both existing customers as well as developing new sources of production. This is a priority.
  • Managing the group of producers to achieve the company goals for the assigned territory. This is a priority.
  • Production of new accounts for the carriers represented by the agency.
  • Underwriting submissions, validating the data and assuring compliance with guidelines.

Scope of duties:

  • Marketing: calls on retail producers, and meetings with carrier representatives, in person or via electronic means to promote new business, gain knowledge of their appetite for risk and needs in order to build confidence and grow the business. Generating high volume of submissions is a priority.
  • Work with senior management to establish production objectives for assigned retail producers. Likewise, work with carriers to achieve desired growth and profit targets
  • Manage the submission of accounts to the carrier underwriters and negotiate with them and retail producers to forge winning proposals. Generate as many submissions as possible.
  • Underwrite those risks that are within the authority granted by represented carriers in a timely, professional manner, using expertise and sales skill. Full home office underwriting support for submissions you are unable to get to because of submission volume.

Qualifications:

  • An analytical mindset that promotes sound decisions and problem solving.
  • This is a remote office position and requires an individual who is capable of independent action, is self motivating and will thrive on the ability to self direct daily activities.
  • Previous background (minimum 2 - 5 years) with commercial auto insurance is desired: retail producer, GA producer or company experience.
  • Communication skills appropriate for the position including both written and in person presentations, with the ability to close the deal.
  • The ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Familiarity with business software.

Regularly performed functions:

  • Actively promote the agency's products to new and existing customers to generate qualified new business submissions. Phone calls, written correspondence and personal visits.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with carrier underwriters, communicating frequently to obtain best possible terms and pricing.
  • Review and price commercial auto submissions: analyze and interpret information such as applications, loss runs, motor vehicle reports, and related data as required.
  • Educate and negotiate with retail producers on specific features of the programs you offer quotes for. Sell beyond price.
  • Monitor performance of the retail producer group and provide feedback to them and Agency Management relative to goal achievement.

Truck Underwriter


We are looking for an experienced truck insurance professional to develop, underwrite and manage a book of commercial trucking business in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and West Virginia. We are underwriting (not sales) driven, and have long standing relationships with multiple stable A+ rated carriers and the Lloyds market.

Successful candidate will possess a four year college degree, 5-8 years commercial underwriting experience with a focus on transportation, the ability to focus and pay attention to detail and good underwriting/analysis skills. The ability to deal positively with agents and carriers is important. Prior transportation underwriting experience is essential.

Brokerage Manager


We are seeking an experienced insurance professional to develop new business opportunities with national brokerage markets. This person will work with our Johnstown, PA and Cockeysville MD offices to solicit brokerage risks such as large property, umbrella, products, D&O/E&O etc. from Pennsylvania Maryland brokers/agents. This position requires aggressive marketing through prospective Independent agents in Pennsylvania and Maryland. A strong knowledge of agencies in Pennsylvania and Maryland is required. Must have the ability to have an existing population of agents utilize your services for placement of commercial brokerage business.

Responsible for monitoring production of agents and Administration of all brokerage programs. A college degree, 5-8 years commercial underwriting/marketing experience and an entrepreneurial spirit is required.

Account Control Technician (New Business)


This position is in the truck department and handles all aspects of initial information gathering, summarization and basic analysis of new business submissions and account set-up and processing after a truck underwriter has bound an account. Duties include:

(a) Initial review of application to determine whether all required information is contained on the application. If not, information must be obtained from producer.

(b) Pull and review DOT Safer reports and review account with underwriter to determine any additional information required. Obtain additional information, prepare account clearance sheets, and initial account analysis

(c) Work closely with underwriter through the binding process. Supervision of binders,certificates, and filings. Follow-up with producer on application and selector forms, making sure all required information is present.

The advancement opportunities of this position are to underwriting assistant/rater - underwriter - department manager. This is a full-time position with excellent salary and benefits.


Account Control Technician (Renewals)


This position in the truck department handles all aspects of renewal processing once we receive the order on a renewal account. Duties include:

Processing of file control sheet; supervision of binders, certificates, and filing issuance; obtaining and reviewing MVRs; obtaining renewal applications and selector forms and reviewing for complete content; and shepherding file to policy issuance.

The advancement opportunities of this position are to renewal rater - renewal underwriter-renewal manager. This is a full-time position. Salary and benefits are excellent.


Public Livery Underwriter


This is an opportunity to manage a public auto (limousine, school bus, small town taxis, social service vans, small seating capacity bus, etc.) program in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia. The position is responsible for complete public livery product and production, including new product development, underwriting, and agency plant management. Excellent A+ XV markets with very competitive products. A successful candidate must be able to interact with agents and carriers. Underwriting/marketing experience and entrepreneurial spirit is required. Production incentives give this position the ability to earn significant income by
