  Interstate Bits & Pieces

Hello friends and welcome back to Interstate’s “Bits & Pieces”.  A lot has happened since our last newsletter, perhaps the biggest of which is the announcement of an exclusive coal haulers program.  We have written Worker’s Compensation Coverage for coal mines and coal truckers for many years, but have lacked a strong market for the Auto Coverages.  Problem solved!

Beginning August 1st in most states, a new Commercial Auto Extension Endorsement will be available on Zurich non-fleet policies.  This looks to be the best extension endorsement in the industry, including among other things Rental Reimbursement, Physical Damage Coverage for Substitute Autos, and Towing Mechanical Breakdown Coverage.  I will cover this endorsement in detail in our next newsletter.

The legal climate is starting to show some promise.  In December of 2010, the state of Pennsylvania passed House Bill 2375, becoming the 25th state to enact legislation that protects trucking firms from shipping contracts which shift liability to them regardless of fault.  And in June of 2011, PA signed into law the Fair Share Act, replacing the long-standing Joint and Several Laws.  You’ll find an article under “P & C Department News” pertaining to this.

Connie Kennedy authors “P & C Department News”, while I pen “Auto Department News”.  Please contact either of us, or any of our Commercial Underwriters, with questions or comments.
